How to Calculate the PUE of a Data Center

The importance of PUE

Cooling, air conditioning and energy for computing (most likely in that order) are the key factors that determine ongoing energy costs in every Data Center. This hardware is not only expensive to run but also expensive to purchase (not to mention UPS, generators, the building itself, lighting etc.) and makes it very expensive to build a new data center or to refit an old data center or repurpose an existing property. With traditional air-cooled data centers, maintaining low levels of humidity and temperature (not to mention the not so obvious benefits of liquid immersion cooling) is extremely important to ensure correct operation of the IT-Hardware.

Submer & CERN: A Strategic Collaboration Agreement

Submer’s SmartPod brings high-density computing and immersion cooling to CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research.

Submer Technologies, leading Immersion Cooling Cleantech is delighted to announce a collaboration with CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. CERN is one of the of the most important laboratories for particle physics in the world, located on the French-Swiss border, with its headquarters in Geneva.

The SmartPod, the cutting-edge Immersion Cooling solution by Submer, will be installed and tested at the LHCb (Large Hadron Collider beauty) experiment, one of the seven particle physics detector experiments collecting data at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) accelerator at CERN. In particular, LHCb is an experiment set up to explore what happened after the Big Bang that allowed matter to survive and build the Universe we inhabit today.

First East…

Co-Founders of Submer, Pol Valls Soler and Daniel Pope and Head of Sales Diarmuid Daltún have been traveling pretty much non-stop since March 2018, when Submer switched gear and came out of R&D and prepared to bring Immersion Cooling to the world.

For some time now, interest in our solution has not only been coming from Europe and the Americas, but also quite a lot from Asia from traditional data centers, telcos, hosters, crypto-miners and enterprises. We decided to head to Asia and put together an itinerary taking us to Taiwan, China, Vietnam and Malaysia.

April 22nd is an increasingly important date internationally and especially important for us here at Submer Technologies. Why? Because it happens to be Earth Day. Our entire raison d’être has to do with supporting technological progress with minimum possible impact on our wonderful planet, Earth.

Earth Day has been celebrated since 1970, the year in which senator Gaylord Nelson first encouraged American students to discuss and generate awareness around environmental issues. A mere 45 years later, Submer was born, a tech-company that concerns itself with helping data centre owner/operators, crypto miners, AI, 3D rendering and edge computing innovators progress without wasting precious resources (such as energy and water), while running a viable competitive business.
